Can prayer do what fasting does?
Prayer & fasting are vital & they strengthen each other mightily.
Why does God release greater measures of divine power thru fasting than in any other way?
Psalm 35:13 “I humble my soul with fasting.”
God always uses power to increase divine goodness & wisdom. The humility of Jesus is divine power, wisdom & goodness. We receive more of the power, goodness & wisdom of Jesus when we fast than in any other way. We humble ourselves through fasting (Ps 35:13). We grow in Christ’s power, wisdom & goodness as we grow in humility.
We grow in humility thru fasting.
Mordecai, Esther, Ezra, Daniel, Nehemiah all lived in captivity in the 20th year of Artaxerxes 1st. In turn, they watched each other face a time of crisis & certain defeat without the divine power, goodness & wisdom needed for victory. In weakness: Mordecai, Esther, Ezra, Nehemiah & Daniel each in turn obeyed God’s call, proclaimed a fast & led God’s people to humble their selves & submit to God with fasting so that they could repent & receive greater measures of divine power, goodness & wisdom upon themselves & their nation than is possible in any other way. When God’s people humble ourselves with fasting, repent & turn to obey Him: our Lord graces us to repent, revive & be restored.
“Father, help us to intercede on behalf of Your people, confessing sin & praying for mercy & restoration. Strengthen us to gain the spiritual victory by believing that Christ has already won the victory by His cross, death, resurrection & ascension. Remind us to obey Your call to proclaim a fast at Your initiative so that mercy can triumph over judgment. Have mercy on us & trade discipline, wrath & judgment for repentance, revival & restoration as we humble ourselves with fasting. Amen”
