Questions, Answers & Prayer:
My friend harshly accused me of something. I then spoke harshly to him. He’s apologized for his error. Should I wait for him to own his harsh tone first?
No! Choose humility & lead by example in humility & God will reward, promote, vindicate, exalt, & commend you for it!
Can you explain this practically?
Your valid & primary concern, now, is that he spoke to you in a less than gentle manner. My guess is you are correct in this.
Your friend’s valid & primary concern, now, is that you spoke to him in a less than compassionate way. My guess is he is correct in this.
You & your friend had difficult conversations that made it very difficult to keep the gentle manner of Christ. You both failed as I would have.
Consider leading by example as Jesus commands us to; by taking ownership of the error on your part. I pray he’ll see our Lord’s example through you & do the same. You’ll be obeying Jesus, even if he doesn’t.
Can you illustrate Biblically?
What sets King David apart is that He always inquired of God & most always allowed God to reprove him so that God would make David’s name great, as God had promised David He would, if David would humble himself & step back & allow God to defend, vindicate, commend & promote him. David humbled himself & “God’s gentleness did make David great,” as David grew in this skill of growing in humility, meekness & being gentle as a lamb, bold as a lion!
Can you give Bible verses?:
“Jesus is kind to ungrateful & evil men (Luke 6:35).”
“Jesus deals gently (with compassion) on those who are ignorant & going astray (Hebrews 5:2).”
“Your (God’s) gentleness has made me (David) great (Psalm 18:35).”
